Very fine 19th century French gilt-bronze figural mantel clock by Raingo Freres, Retailed by Jacobs & Lucas. The movement stamped: Raingo Freres Paris. The dial inscribed: Jacobas & Lucas A Paris. Raingo Freres began business in the early 1800’s, manufacturing all types of decorative clocks. They expanded into decorative art bronzes and furnishings in addition to patents on their orreries, which were mechanical devices illustrating the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the solar system in a heliocentric model. Their clients included such notables as the Duc de Chartres and the Emperor and Empress. La Maison Raingo Freres participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1867, 1878, and 1889 receiving medals in all including a Gold Medal in 1889.
